My washer died on Friday & now I have to get a new one quick! With 9 people in the family, I'm drowning in laundry. So, please can someone tell me what is the largest capacity washer? We usually wash at least 4 loads a day! TIA!!!

I have been looking too. I know I have seen models 4.2 cubic feet....I think LG, GE and Samsung have the bigger sizes.
My current washer is leaking so I know I will be buying one soon. No sense repairing mine as the part and labor will be about $750. Yep.
I would love to know what you end up buying.
Consumer Reports put out their washer ratings. I'll have to find it and see what they say. From what I remember they didn't list size though.

I just bought an LG (can't remember how big it is) but I'm not thrilled with it. I had a Kenmore prior to this one and loved it!
Just my 2 cents :)
Hope you find the right one for you :)

If you are buying soon, don't forget about the "cash for clunkers" appliance rebates. Here is a link so you can find the program for your state http://www.energysavers.gov/financial/70020.html.
It's not much, but if you are in the market now, it's a little extra help. I think for us a washer rebate it's about $150 - $250. Not enough for us to go shopping, even though we have a 16 year old washer. I have a death wish on it, and have for some time. With our luck, it will die after the rebate program expires.
OOPS, forgot to mention that a good friend with triplets has the Whirlpool Cabrio washer and she LOVES it. They are a family of 5 and she thinks it would accommodate my family of 7 nicely too. I'm more inclined to go this way instead of a front loader after the small amount of research I've done. But I may change my mind when it comes decision time.

Thanks for the input everyone! I've been looking at the Maytag Bravos. It's supposed to have 5.0 cubic ft. I'll have to see that to believe it.

Oddly enough, my washer started leaking on Saturday. It was during my first load of the day, on a day that I was pretty behind on laundry. I ended up doing 12 loads that day (hadn't done laundry in a few days!!!), but on the 3rd load, it stopped leaking. I had been wet vac-ing during each load! I am going to cross my fingers that it is all better since it is only 3 years old!

The friendly folks at Sears will be quite happy to help you coordinate the entire rebate too! We are getting ads for Lowe's, as well. Even the local appliance "clearance" center is willing to help out.
I think with the program kicking in, you might also see some sales/discounts.

Janet,
Beware, my last one only lasted 5 years before we wore it out :( Poor things get run to death with all of our loads of laundry. Especially when Gavin was in his prime for his reflux!

think I am going with one of the LGs. Hopefully mine will be fine! My local best buy has a 4.o cubic feet washer with sanatizer cycle for $594, delivery/install/ and haul is only $30, and I get 15% off for the Energy star rebate. This model is lower priced than the next down model. (okay only by $29 but still......).
consumer reports says LG is the best overall brand. Maytag the worst.
I'm excited! wonder if I should be there at 8am when the store opens??? Kids, get to school yourselves! (just joking)

Just make sure you leave the door open at all times! If you check on-line, you will see that the biggest problem with these seems to be that they smell bad if you don't leave the door open to dry out between loads. It also leaks occasionally.
I have had an LG a few years now. I don't like that it takes so long to do a load. Also, I have noticed that sometimes the clothes (mostly towels) smell kind of musty.
I do not have a new dryer, so I need to split the washer load into two dryer loads usually.

Whew, I bought an LG but it can't be delivered before May 8. Hope mine lasts until then!
I've read about the musty smell some washers get. I've asked people around where I live and no one has that problem. maybe it's the water. Mold-yes. have that on my current one. Yuck. Will try harder to keep the new one clean.
I'm excited.
However, it does not count as my Mothers Day gift. :-)

Great news Diane on the LG! I think that I jinxed myself when I posted because I can now no longer use the "super" size on my washer....leaks so much during that cycle that I have to run the wet vac while it is on. That is the most important size for my washer, too, so I think that I will be shopping around soon. Hope that yours hangs in there until the delivery date!

My new LG was put into action last Saturday. So far, great! It is quiet, quick and spins the clothes very dry.

That is great news on the LG...keep me posted since I am just buying myself time for us...now down to only the "medium" size load (nothing in our family is ever 'medium'!) and also have to then respin on super, since super is the only spin cycle that works!!!!!!! At this rate, I am going to also need a new wet vac soon!
